I took a week off. A whole week. A whole seven days of not opening up my laptop, letting it gather dust for just a few days whilst I let myself recharge. I just burnt-out with blogging and social media and Instagram posts and scheduling and editing and I needed to step away. It was simple really – I think with the New Year I just started to feel overwhelmed, I hadn’t taken a break over Christmas and had continued writing, photographing, scheduling and all sorts so by the time the first of January had rolled around, I needed to escape a little bit. So, after a day of feeling frustrated after not being able to string a sentence together or take a half-decent photograph, I switched off my laptop, closed the lid, walked away and told myself I wouldn’t open it till I was completely, one hundred percent ready.
2018 is well and truly underway, even if, like me, you have no idea how it is already 2018. I have personally never been a fan of New Year or January as a whole, but this, I want to put a positive spin on it and start as I mean to go on. January is the perfect time for a new start but you don’t have to put as much pressure on it as it sounds. The last few years I have got rid of New Year Resolutions and stuck primarily to goals (see mine here) and that already has helped to take off the pressure of the New Year.
I think that 2018 will be one of the scarier years I’ve had yet simply because I no longer have that comfort blanket of school, college or university. I’m still working part-time, which is my own personal choice, and I’m really enjoying how everything is working out at the moment, but there is definitely still that part of me that is a little bit apprehensive of what 2018 will entail.
This year, I am so excited by the sales! I’m not even sure why but I am just loving the deals out there at the moment! Not forgetting to mention the ease of ordering everything I want online, sitting on my sofa, stuffing my face with cheese and chocolate, in my comfy loungewear (thanks, Santa!) with some cheesy movie in the background. Oh no, you will not be finding me pushing and shoving my way around a shopping centre this year!
You may have noticed that Blogmas took an unexpected pause at the end of last week. After posting daily since the very 1st of December, the content came to a stop. It kind of broke my little blogging heart, purely because it was going so well. Every day had fresh content that I was happy with and it was all running very smoothly with my fabulous little organisation schedule working in the background. But then, I got ill. I came down with, quite frankly, the sinus infection from hell. A sore throat, swollen glands, constantly runny nose, a complete lack of energy and worse of all… the worst headache. Constantly. Cold and Flu tablets did a grand job of minimising the more pesky side effects but would not touch the headache at all.
I’ve learned the hard way that starting your day at the very first point productive is the main key to help to keep it productive. A poor routine used to lead me to 3 am bedtimes, 11 am wake-up call and lazying about for hours until I physically forced myself to do something. It was never healthy and it never helped with… well, just about anything!
