The Perfect Base with L’Oreal Shaping Sticks

Perfecting Your Base with L'Oreal

New In From L’Oreal

One of my first makeup loves (throwback to being sixteen and browsing the aisles of Boots and Superdrug for hours after college trying to work out this make-up malarky) was the L’Oreal True Match foundation. My very first bottle was way too dark and I used my fingers to blend it in so it was pretty patchy, to say the least, but I loved it and bottles of it are still being brought now (and in the right shade… thankfully!). So I wasn’t all that surprised when I saw an Instagram advert for the new L’oreal Infallible Shaping Sticks and I rushed down to my nearest Superdrug to add them to my ever-growing makeup collection.

I really do love the idea and concept of foundation sticks. They can be easily stored, I much prefer travelling with them and they are just so simple to use and apply. A quick swipe on your face, a little blending and you are good to go. We don’t see many foundation sticks on the high-street currently so I am all over the fact that L’Oreal is one of the first drugstore brands to introduce them in an affordable and accessible manner.

The foundation stick range is made up of twelve shades that you can mix and match for foundation, concealer and contour alongside four highlighting sticks and two blush sticks. Get the collection (they also have brought out brand new primers!) and your base makeup is well and truly sorted! Happy days. Oh, and if you needed a little more tempting, Boots are currently offering three for two across L’Oreal… *sacks off writing and adds all the L’Oreal products to my virtual basket*.

Base. Contour. Highlight.

All three products have the same creamy, easy to blend texture that I adore. When they come into contact with the skin, they transform into a liquid that makes it all so simple to blend in perfectly with whatever tool you decide to use. They are not dry in the slightest (though, time will tell if they dry out in months to come) and I found that once they have been blended in, my skin looks dewy, healthy and bright and all done in one easy process!

My foundation shade in these is 100 – Ivory which is the lightest shade out of the lot. This is actually a perfect colour for me in my completely natural state (no self-tanner or natural tan) and whilst I am pale, I would like to see some lighter shades in the collection, especially as it offers me no highlight/concealer shade as I tend to like to go a shade lighter for that. What I also really like about this is because it is a simple stick form, you are in complete control of how much product you wish to apply. You can go for just a light coverage or go ahead and build it up. They offer complete versatility, which I adore and saves space in my make up bag! All three products last really well on me and can get me through the day wonderfully. My only gripe is that without powder I do find they really do transfer but just a quick dusting and you are truly good to go!

For contour, I went for 210 – Cappuccino and whilst it is pretty dark for my skin tone, it blends perfectly down to create a defined look that is so easy to do. Again, a quick swipe on the side of the stick, a quick blend and you’re truly good to go. Like the foundation, this is also buildable which is just perfect.

For highlight, I went for 503 – Slay Rose, a beautiful rose pink shade that looks truly stunning in its’ stick form. I love quite an intense highlight and the finish look of this is quite subtle but it makes the perfect base to apply powder highlight on over the top. The texture of this stick is quite a little bit harder than the foundations which for me, means it drags on the skin ever so slightly when applying so I tend to go for more of a dabbing motion and then blending out softly with my fingers. Works perfectly and helps my powder highlight really pop and last so much longer as this gives it something to grip too!
