The Christmas Tag 2017

Bringing Back A Classic!

For today’s Blogmas post, I wanted to, of course, keep it Christmassy but also fun! A while back I was going through our huge box of childhood photo’s and found some old Christmas ones from when I was a little girl. I couldn’t resist scanning them in and adding them to this post to make it extra Christmassy and nostalgic!

I have such wonderful memories of my childhood Christmases, waking up at 5 am too excited to continue sleeping and having my parents beg my brother and me to go back to sleep for at least another hour! I never did and would sit excitedly in my room watching the early Christmas morning television. In fact, I do remember one year Annabel’s Wish being on Channel 4 very early morning and for the first year, I actually got so distracted by enjoying the movie that I sat and watched the whole thing before going downstairs to open my presents!

I also remember the year we moved house around the 20th of December. I must have been around eleven years old and my parents had put the decorations up in our house in Southend, took them down a few days before we moved and then very quickly stuck them back up again when we got to our new house! It was a weird Christmas, to say the least, but looking back now, I really didn’t appreciate it the time the effort my parents must have put in to make sure we had a ‘normal’ Christmas that year despite the fact we had moved our entire lives into a new home!

So there are just some of my Christmas memories and whilst I would love to share more with you, let’s just get to tag, shall we?!

01. What is your favourite Christmas film?

Definitely The Santa Claus with Tim Allen! I adore that film and whilst all Christmas films offer that comforting feeling, this film really does make me feel very nostalgic! It is a film my dad and I typically watch every year and the humour, the Disney magic and the cinematography just make it my favourite Christmas movie! Though, Love Actually is a very, very close second!

02. Where do you usually spend your Christmas?

For as long as I can remember, we have always spent our Christmas at home! A lot of our family lives in a small cottage or bungalow so when it comes to family Christmas, they always come around ours as we have the bigger house and the space to cram in all the grandparents, their dogs and pressies!

For me, I love spending Christmas at home because it means you can be truly comfortable so when you are nursing that post-Christmas dinner food baby, I can truly relax in my Christmas jumper and slippers without feeling too awkward that I am at someone else’s home. In fact, apart from my nan’s for the odd year, we have always spent it at our house!

03. What is your favourite Christmas song?

Can I just say… I really struggled with this one and literally had to really think about my answer to this haha! But, I have decided that I think my favourite Christmas song is a mix between Wham’s Last Christmas and Mariah’s  All I Want For Christmas Is You. The latter just has that classic Christmas feel and it is definitely the song that I cannot get out of my head throughout the entirety of December. As for Wham, it’s just a beautiful song, isn’t it?! This is definitely my mum’s favourite Christmas song so we’ve had to listen to it a lot and I. Just. Love. It. *goes to Spotify*

04. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

Noooo! To me, this just feels so wrong haha, surely it takes some of the fun away from Christmas day?! Nope, for us, we leave everything to Christmas Day. Christmas Eve is for Christmas baking, very last-minute preparation and last-minute Christmas movie watching! Oh, and this is when we crack out the first of our Christmas Baileys and a real classic… a Snowball!

05. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

Fake! I think I would love the idea of a real tree but, in reality, I can’t help but think they are a bit of a hassle! We’ve had our fake tree for years now and it is just so easy to set up and prepare to leave us all the fun of decorating it!

06. What is your all-time favourite holiday food/sweet treat?

Oh gosh, I don’t have a particular favourite but I just love ALL the chocolate and nibbles we have this time of year! I’m talking the plastic tubs (no more tins sadly!) of Roses and Quality Streets, Match Makers, After Eights, pretzels, nuts… everything! I love just sitting watching a movie and thinking “ooh, I’m a bit peckish” and just walking over to the nibbles table (yes we put up a whole table of nibbles!) and diving straight in. Divine!

07. What is the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?

Last year I was very lucky to receive my Olympus Pen E-PL8 which left me truly amazed! I had kept leaving little hints for my mum but I genuinely didn’t think she would be able to buy it so I was SO overjoyed when I opened it. Cue sequels and forever repeating “I can’t actually believe you brought me this!”

I also remember receiving a beautiful wooden horse one year when I was a child that I just adored. I used to love horses growing up and would spend hours pretending it was real. It was big enough to actually sit on and was truly a wonderful gift! It was a tad big to store, and honestly, I have no idea what happened to it, but I would have loved to had kept it and passed it down one day!

08. What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday seasons?

New York! It’s just got to be, hasn’t it?! I have never been to New York before and I think Christmas is truly the perfect time to visit! All I have seen on Pinterest recently are Christmassy New York shots and whilst London is truly beautiful at Christmas, I do think that New York just beats it… just a little bit though!

09. Most memorable Holiday moment?

This isn’t specifically a Christmas Day memory but one year a week or so before Christmas, my family and I stayed in Covent Garden for a night. We don’t live too far from London so are lucky enough to make regular visits, but this time we stayed in Covent Garden and there was just something so special about waking up early and exploring a very Christmassy Covent Garden before its usual business had hit. London is my favourite place in the world and it was so truly Christmassy and definitely my favourite holiday moment. I would love to do it again one year!

10. Do you make New Years resolutions? Do you stick to them?

For the last two years I have been making New Year Goals as opposed to ‘resoltuions’ and believe it or not, just changing that word makes such a big difference for me when it comes to actually achieving those goals!

I always try and really reflect on the past year and really think about what I would like to achieve in the next. I try to avoid those ‘big’ things which are just too mammoth to complete like “get fit!” And instead break them down into something manageable and achievable like “incorporate long daily walks into my routine”, “start doing Yoga videos on YouTube”. That way, I find I am more likely to stick to the goals and feel so much more confident about them, which, let’s be honest, is key when it comes to achieving them!

11. What makes the holidays special for you?

It is just the magic isn’t it? It’s the atmosphere, the lights, the happiness, the giving, the food, the decorations, the music, the countdown, Christmas Carols, seeing family and friends, the glitz, the adverts, the sense of community. Christmas is just magical and whilst it may not always be perfect, it’s always magical.

12. When do you start getting excited about Christmas?

Normally, that Christmas excitement kicks off around the end of November. Mostly because the past four years I have been at university and was usually knee deep in work (last year was the big ol’ dissertation. FUN TIMES.) so struggled to get into the Christmas spirit when I still had so much hard work to do buuuut this year everything definitely got earlier! Mid-November saw all the high-street decorations going up, Christmas adverts dropping left, right and centre and of course… pre-Blogmas writing left me feeling really Christmassy. The only thing I didn’t do was watch any Christmas movies until December!
