Tanya Burr 12 Days Advent Calendar – What Was Inside?

Tanya Burr 12 Days Advent Calendar

Gone are the days where you would struggle picking what chocolate advent calendar you want for the month of December in your local supermarket. Would you go for the Santa Claus one, or perhaps the reindeer one? And then, it got even harder a few years back when chocolate brands started to introduce their own versions, did you want the Malteesers version, or maybe even the Lindt one?

This choice became even harder with the introduction of alternative advent calendars, namely beauty calendars that help you count down till Christmas with little beauty treats behind the doors every day. This year I was lucky enough to have two beauty calendars to open, one being the Marks and Spencer’s one (see the full post here) and the other being the Tanya Burr Cosmetics offering. Twelve days of Tanya Burr Cosmetics goodies, including some limited edition products for 2017.

First impressions, I love the overall design of the calendar. The storefront purple design looks great on display and is beautifully Christmassy. Tanya always gets the aesthetics right and I have always loved the design and look of her products. As well, the price point of the calendar isn’t too bad as far as advent calendars go, I do think the original retail price of £30 is ever so slightly steep but it’s current retail price of £10 on Superdrug is not too bad at all… As for the calendar itself, the contents it offers are ok, I love the mixture of different makeup, but, it is virtually the same as her previous two other calendars. I would say that all three years of her calendars are too similar to put out again and again, which is a shame if you are a Tanya Burr fan and want to purchase the calendar every year. I would love to see some different products and not the same nail file and mirror in next years version.

But, let’s take a look inside, shall we…?

The Eyeliners

In this year’s advent calendar, you receive two different eyeliners, a beautiful gold and also a silver. Two beautiful festive colours that you just cannot go wrong with and I was super excited to see them in here! Unfortunately, these really irritated and burnt my eyelids which I was shocked at! If I am perfectly honest as well, the quality just wasn’t there for me. The glitter was incredibly subtle and extremely hard to build up, especially as I found that the product didn’t really dry down. It’s a shame as the colours are really beautiful and I love the idea of glitter liners.

The Nail Polishes

I loved the colours of the three nail polishes you get in the calendar. A classic red (of course!) and two beautiful glitters shades, one silver and one gold. If you ask me, the perfect Christmas colours! I love Tanya Burr Nail Polishes and actually, have quite a few already so these were definitely my favourite thing in the calendar! The red polish chipped really quickly sadly but the colour was beautiful but the two standouts were definitely the glitters, perfect for a little festive topcoat and lasted so much longer than the red shade! The formula of the glitters is lovely too; glides right on easily enough and drys fairly quickly too!

The Lip Glosses

Again, I have always really enjoyed Tanya’s lip glosses in her range, they are brilliantly pigmented, super creamy and don’t feel too sticky on the lips. Thankfully, the ones in the calendar were no exception! All three shades are super creamy and pigmented and I blooming adore Berry Fudge which is such a beautiful berry colour that looks truly wonderful over a similar lipstick shade. Ice Queen was a nice addition too, I would never normally wear a glittery lip gloss like this, but it actually pleasantly surprised me. Plus, you truly can’t ever have enough lipglosses, can you?!

The Glitter Eyeshadows

I personally tend to avoid glitter eyeshadows as they are just so messy but it was a nice addition to have these in the calendar! The glitter quality is nice and unlike the eyeliners, these, thankfully, don’t irritate my eyes. For me, nothing can quite beat the quality of the MAC Cosmetics Pigments which I just adore but this a lovely option from Tanya which is just so perfect for the party season!

The Extras

Similar to other years, you get a little pocket mirror and also a nail file in the calendar. Nice enough additions, but nothing special. But, I can imagine these being great for school children, I know at school I always carried around a little mirror in my blazer pocket (to apply more Dream Matte Mousse, I would assume). You can never really go wrong with a mirror or a nail file, I’d just like to see something different next year!

All-in-all, I do really like Tanya’s calendar. The design is so beautiful and the products make perfect sense for the Christmas theme and Tanya’s brand. I do think it is disappointing that it is so similar to the two previous calendars before it and I think it needs variation next year to make it worth purchasing. It’s sad that some of the products are not up to Tanya’s normal standard, such as the red nail polish and the glitter eyeliners but ultimately… I enjoyed opening this up over the last twelve days and have enjoyed using most of the products! It’s the perfect last-minute gift for someone who loves Tanya and loves playing around with makeup, and that £10 price tag is making it irresistible!
