“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!”
Putting up the Christmas decorations is probably my favourite Christmas activity, other than eating the turkey roast, of course! There is something just so lovely about completely transforming the house into this warm, cosy, softly-lit place that just oozes comfort. For me, our house never looks better than when it does at Christmas. The tree twinkling with its white and gold decorations, with fairy lights sparkling all around our living room. The fireplace always looks so much better with the stockings above it, just waiting patiently to be filled on Christmas Eve. Winter themed tealights flickering away as the fire roars, filling the room with much-needed warmth for when we gather to watch A Christmas Carol.
If you ask me, it isn’t Christmas without a tacky decoration or two. Every year we bring out our fibre optic light-up Santa who sits brightly in the corner where it has been sitting proudly every Christmas for as long as I can remember. In fact, it may even have been from Woolworths! And whilst I do love a little bit of tackiness, tinsel is the one thing you won’t see in our house! I forbid it, instead, going for long garlands with pine cones and holly attached, perfect for our house set out in the country. And lastly, it really is not Christmas without all the treats on full display. It ends up being the ultimate test, sitting in the living room, feeling a bit peckish and knowing you cannot eat the treats staring at you till the big day.
Now, the only thing missing is the presents sitting under the tree! I have only just started my Christmas shopping, all online, of course, so now I’m impatiently waiting for it arrives so I can wrap them. Don’t ask me why, but I just love wrapping up everyone’s presents and placing them under the tree. Then, the excitement truly starts to build as everyone starts to wonder what is waiting there for them under the tree.
Well, there’s only two weeks to go, so let’s have a little look at how we’ve decorated this year!
“I truly believe that if we keep telling the Christmas story, singing the Christmas songs, and living the Christmas spirit, we can bring joy and happiness and peace to this world.”
–Norman Vincent Peale
