Down By The Sea
You may have noticed that Blogmas took an unexpected pause at the end of last week. After posting daily since the very 1st of December, the content came to a stop. It kind of broke my little blogging heart, purely because it was going so well. Every day had fresh content that I was happy with and it was all running very smoothly with my fabulous little organisation schedule working in the background. But then, I got ill. I came down with, quite frankly, the sinus infection from hell. A sore throat, swollen glands, constantly runny nose, a complete lack of energy and worse of all… the worst headache. Constantly. Cold and Flu tablets did a grand job of minimising the more pesky side effects but would not touch the headache at all.
It was a nightmare. Looking at a screen worsened that headache, standing around trying to take photos left me feeling shaky and weak. It was truly a mega cold and I simply had to admit defeat and listen to my body. I always harp on about self-care on here, listening to what your body is telling you and giving yourself and your mind the time to heal and look after its self so as heartbroken as I was to run out of scheduled posts and take a pause on Blogmas, I needed to practice what I preach and taking the time off allowed me to recover much faster.
Not only that, I got away. It is always healthy to get out of the same routine and same four walls so myself and my bestie Georgia jumped on a train to Brighton for two days of Christmas fun in my favourite city. I may not have taken tons of photographs, but I did complete all my Christmas shopping… so every cloud and all that.
One of my favourite things about Brighton is how close everything is together. The Laines, the high street and the sea are all within walking distance of each other which makes for the perfect trip. We ate at all our favourites (GBK and Itsu – living in the country denies these glorious places!) and shopped in all our places we loved when we lived in Brighton. It was so lovely walking around North Laine again, popping into all the unique stores that Brighton has to offer.
We stayed at the Royal Albion Hotel which was just perfect for our little trip! The room was spacious with beautiful high ceilings and comfy beds… all we needed! Not only that, it sits right on the seafront and it was so lovey being able to see the sea bobbing away from our window. And it was only a two-minute walk from town. Perfection!
Christmas shopping aside, I couldn’t help but do a little shopping for myself, could I?! I rarely walk around shops as I tend to do everything online, so it was really lovely to just wander around, really looking at the pieces my favourites Topshop, River Island and Zara were stocking. I picked up a pair of slip-on loafers in the River Island sale which are such a steal for just £15! It’s a little chilly to wear them now, but in a few months time, they are going to be all I wear I’m sure! For Christmas Day, I picked up a black polka dot frilly blouse also from River Island. I love this style of top, slightly cropped, frill sleeves all make for a flattering blouse that can be dressed up or worn casually. Lastly, I have been eyeing up a baker boy hat after seeing so many of my favs sporting them on Instagram (I’m talking about you Perrie Edwards, Alix (ICovetThee) and Zoe) and thought it was about time I jumped on the trend and after shopping around, I found the perfect hat in Zara. It is velvet (heart eyes all around) and comes in sizes which means I could buy a small and have it actually fit my head. I’m in love!
I had the nicest time away in Brighton, it was short and sweet and truly just what I needed. The perfect reminder that it is ok to take a little break. Your mind and body will be so much happier for it!
Again, apologises for missing out on Blogmas over the last few days, but I hope you like the new content that is coming up!
Thank you for reading!
