Sun, Sea and Sand
That was all Georiga and I wanted when browsing numerous holiday websites back on a grey day in April. We were knee deep in university work, I was typing out of the last of my ten thousand words for my dissertation whilst trying to plan two more essays, write a weekly academic blog and it just hit me. I needed a break. A break that featured a healthy dose of sun, sea and sand.
Two months later, sitting around the pool, looking over the blue sea below our hotel, the sun on my back, I fell a little in love with Gran Canaria and all that university work seems like a distant dream I do not quite remember. It was a gorgeous 30 degrees all week, there was no stress and it was the first time in four years I could truly switch off, truly enjoy the moment when it truly sunk in that university work was finished, that I was finished.
We are staying in the Hotel Riosol, a beautiful, hilltop apartment based hotel in Puerto Rico, southern Gran Canaria. We picked the hotel purely for its incredible views over the resort, the kind of views where you cannot make out where the sea ends and the sky starts, they were truly stunning and I would recommend the hotel purely for those panoramic views alone. It is a quiet resort, there is not much here, but the traditional tacky bars, restaurants and mini-golf golf down the road are busy enough with that ‘we are on holiday mode’ atmosphere that means you do not feel too lonely.
It was a week of pure bliss, no stress with the only decisions that needed to be made was what bikini to wear today? What food am I going to reach for at the buffet? And what photo do I put on Instagram? Here is the Gran Canaria Photo Diary.
Are you off anywhere nice for your Summer holidays this year?
