Searching For Crepes
My friend Georgia and I really like sweet things. Pancakes, crepes, cupcakes, cookies… basically, if it has chocolate in or on it or comes with a good serving of cream, the chances are we are all over it. So, I am sure you can imagine our pure joy when CrepeAffaire dropped me an email asking us to come and try their new buckwheat galette. A gluten-free vegan option that is wonderfully delicious; it did not take much consideration before we said yes!
There are a lot of cake shops, sweet treats and bakeries in Brighton but CrepeAffaire manages to stand out with its beautifully clean, bright interior and perfect, centre of town, in the Lanes location you just cannot miss. After living here for four years and trying out plenty of cafes, one of the things I have noticed Brighton lacks is large places with lots of seating but CrepeAffaire have plenty of choices inside and a good handful outside too with umbrellas, putting their customers firmly in the hustle and bustle of town. The area it is located is visually stunning, two minutes from the beach and some of town’s best shopping choices are in your eye line and if you are travelling, you are a five-second walk away from the taxi rank. It is truly in the most perfect location to people watch and admire Brighton coming alive. During the weekends the area will be bustling with shoppers, tourists and locals alike taking advantage of what Brighton offers and during the week and especially the morning, it is a little bit quieter and serene. Either way is lovely.
With friendly faces at the counter and an impeccable service, Georgia and myself felt right at home.
After going through the choice of mouth-watering toppings and fillings, the sweet tooth in me won and G and I both ordered the spectacularly named, ‘I’ll have what she’s having’, a crepe filled with strawberries (my favourite!), a choice of Belgian Chocolate or Nutella (we choose Nutella, obviously) and that large serving of cream we all know I love. If you want or require it, you can change your traditional crepe for the new buckwheat galette and if you mention it, the staff will happily make sure that everything is super clean to avoid cross-contamination, which is pretty fab if you ask me!
I’m just going to say it, I was certainly initially worried I was not going to be a big fan of the galette, I have never had buckwheat before and had no idea if the taste would differ but for all you crepe lovers out there, it tasted no different! The texture was slightly more ‘bubbly’ than your traditional crepe but all-in-all, I really, really liked it and it is safe to say that G and I had no problem clearing our plates! Plus, we knew this already but the fillings were lovely and really hit the spot.
With 15 locations in the UK and with a really lovely menu that will satisfy all the taste buds, CrepeAffaire should certainly be at the very top of your food wish list.
I am so impressed with the quality of their sweet treats, the choice and as I have already mentioned, the service was really, really lovely. And it comes across that they really love their customers too! Download their app for offers, loyalty card and a free crepe and if you are a student, we get a lovely 15% off with a valid NUS card. Perfect for your first visit to give them a try, but I am sure you’ll fall in love with them just like G and I did!
