“Is the spring coming?” he said. “What is it like?”… “It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine…” Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden
Spring always feels light. The days are quite literally lighter. The air feels calm, light and airy. People are lighter; they’re happier, relaxed and floating around with a little joy in their step. The world almost seems at peace on a Spring day.
It’s the exact same with makeup. Everything get’s lighter. The contour palette that saw more love than probably anything else ever this Winter is out of my makeup bag and in the back of the cupboard, only getting pulled out for special occasions now, purple and berry lipsticks, as much I want to wear them, are getting replaced by the pinks and the corals. My Spring makeup bag is full of light fuchsia’s and I couldn’t be happier.

The feeling of a thick, heavy foundation on my skin when the sun is beating down on it really isn’t one to be feeling when you want to enjoy the beautiful day and everything that comes with it, so I’d always recommend a BB cream. You can still get the all important coverage but without the feel of a foundation. A lot of BB creams have SPF (essential) and some even have the addition of some skincare magic. Which is why I love the BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrated Gel Cream. It’s a bit of a mouthful but with five skincare benefits you’re not going to care what it’s called. Pair this with Collection’s trusty Lasting Perfection concealer a shade lighter than this and you’ve got yourself a dewy, healthy, natural base that’s going to last you through even the strongest of sun rays.
MAC Strobe Cream is a pretty handy product I’ve loved for a while. At £24.50 it’s really not the cheapest product to own but it’s benefits outweigh the higher price. Use it on it’s own or, as I do, mix it in with your foundation to give your skin an ‘awake’, brightening affect most foundations can’t do on their own. It doubles up as a moisturiser and feels very lightweight and smooth on the skin whilst working it’s brightening magic. I guarantee this will be your best skincare friend this season.
It’s a complete essential to be lovely and bronzed in the Summer months and one of the best face bronzers on the market has to be the completely affordable Soap and Glory Solar Powder. It has two different toned bronzers, a matte finish and a silky powder that applies evenly, effortlessly and allows you to build up the coverage if that’s what you want. My blusher of choice is anything pink; I’m in love with this straight up fuchsia blush from Kiko but unfortunately it’s no longer available but it seems that this Revlon Haute Pink Blush is a pretty spot-on dupe, if this is anything like the Kiko blush though, be warned, it’s incredibly matte so you only need the smallest amount of this to give you beautiful, rosy cheeks. And lasting in the powder department, it’s the Hourglass Ambient Lightening Powders. For every day, I actually use all three together to help mattify my skin but also keep that healthy glow that the strobe cream allows for.
I’ve hit that highlighter trend hard. I love it. Obsessed. For someone that four years ago would only wear anything if it was completely matte, I’ve completely jumped on the highlighter/strobing/whatever you wish to call it trend. My highlighter of choice is always MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle. Pigmented? Yes. Shimmery? Yes. Beautiful? Yes. Yes. Yes. If you’re thinking of investing in a highlighter, there is no other one in the world I’d recommend other than this. It’s beautiful, applies like a dream and has the MAC quality I pay for.
Eyebrows and eyes are fairly straight forwards as always. Brow wax is my favourite to use due to it’s easiest and impressive lasting power and Soap and Glory’s Archery manages to do that nicely for me. I love how thin the applicator is = hello defined and strong brows and the spoolie is super useful and something I use every day. For eyes, I grab my Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette that get’s an awful lot of love from me and I apply ‘Tricked’ all over the lid. Boom. Done. Copper is such a beautiful shade and what I love most about this is because of it’s glitter overload, it reflects and catches the light beautifully. Team up with the staple L’Oreal Superliner and of course, Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, you’re on to a winner. I can’t always be bothered with the hassle and fiddliness of falsies so this mascara is you’re best bet: volume, length and lasting power all-in-one.
My current favourite lip duo? The GOSH Velvet Touch Lip Liner in Antique Rose, the perfect beige pink, perfect for adding that little bit of definition to the lips and over the top taking this (now discontinued, ugh) ELF lip crayon that doesn’t have a name but is the most beautiful dusty pink. The pair of these give off a muted, defined, nude look that I’m loving for day to day.
Wow, so there we have it. My current Spring makeup that I’m wearing practically every day. I love the bronzed, highlighter look at the moment, it looks so healthy and ‘awake’ and perfect for this Warmer weather. What’s your must-have Spring Makeup product?
