The Festive Reds

It seems there is an unspoken rule about wearing red lipstick during the Festive period. You just have to. A red lipstick is beautiful, classy and truly packs a statement (also Taylor Swifts’ fav so you’re automatically winning). Over the last few years, my red lipstick collection has expanded to almost worrying levels (whoopsie daisy) but obviously, no two red lipsticks are the same. I’ve managed to pick out my favourite crimsons for the party season ranging from drugstore to high end, so hopefully there will be something for everyone!

Collection ‘Little Mix Jesy’ Lipstick / If you’re a fan of Little Mix, you will already know that Jesy adores a killer red lip so it’s no surprise the lipstick she brought out with the girls collection is a brilliant red you just can’t go wrong with. This is vibrant. This is daring. It’s beautiful and one for the girls who love a little orange punch added to their reds. It has a matte finish but applies nicely and has a slight creamy texture. This is actually very similar to MAC’s Lady Danger but with just a retail price of £2.99, it’s the perfect red to try out and practice with.

L’oreal Colour Riche 229 / With another matte finish and a slightly plum undertone, this is a wonderful contender for the perfect classic red. The colour and packaging is beautiful (I’m a sucker for gold packaging) but what makes this stand out is the lasting power. Apply this Christmas morning, eat the turkey, drink the eggnog and you’ll probably still not need to reapply this. A wonderful addition to any lipstick collection.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Lip Stain 01 / For those who prefer a liquid lipstick, Bourjois offers a really lovely little lip stain thats beautiful, has intense pigmentation, lasts all day and isn’t upsettingly drying. Again, this is a little darker and deeper than your typical red making it truly perfect for the Christmas and Winter season. Again, don’t let the ‘matte’ finish scare you off, this applies like a creamy liquid that dries instantly to a wonderful, bold finish. What’s more, you don’t feel it drying on your lips, in fact, you don’t feel it at all. Yippee.

Clinique Pop ‘Cherry Pop’ Lipstick / I mainly wanted last months Glamour Mag to read the wonderful Tanya Burr interview and it was just a bonus that this mini Clinique lipstick just happened to come with it. This is pretty special in the fact it manages to team up the lipstick itself and a primer, guaranteeing you long-lasting wear which is essential for such a pretty colour.

NARS ‘Dragon Girl’ Lip Pencil / After reading somewhere that this was one of the red lipsticks that Taylor Swift herself loved, I rushed to the NARS website (as fast as my rubbish countryside internet would allow…) and ordered myself one. We hadn’t met yet but I already knew I was in love. The pencil makes this so easy to apply and pop into your bag and clutch, the colour is beautiful; a bright pop of colour that will flatter all and I just cannot get enough. This actually has a very slight fuchsia undertone making it stand out slightly against the blues and the oranges and also makes this super fun. It’s creamy but matte, long-lasting and makes me feel a little bit more glamour every time I wear it.

MAC ‘Lady Danger’ / A blogger favourite! You just cannot go wrong with Lady Danger; such a staple that’s going to be a perfect fit in anyones collection. Again, this more on the brighter side, almost a coral but is so unbelievably flattering on any skintone! This is a little dryer than the above mentioned but the colour pay off is so impressive. Perfect for Christmas and Winter but fun fact: this looks very awesome in Summer alongside a tan. I’m a big fan!

MAC ‘Cherry’ Lip Pencil / I would 100% recommend applying a lipliner under any bold colour; it helps make application easier and helps to make that all important colour last longer. This is a darker red but actually works quite well with any red; it’s definitely worth experimenting and seeing what works best and what your favourite pairing is. This is bold, pigmented and works just brilliant on it’s own as well. Well worth every penny!

There we go, a little round up of some wonderful red lipsticks! What is your favourite?
