YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush

Whenever I walk past the Yves Saint Laurent counter in Boots, House of Frasier or wherever, my heart always skips a tiny beat. The YSL counters is one of my favourites, it just looks so pretty, the colours look amazing and there is always, always something that will catch my eye. I only have two of their lipsticks but YSL is definitely a brand I intend to explore more.
For my birthday this year, I asked mother bear if I could have one of the recently launched, Baby Doll Kiss & Blush, lip and cheek colour. She choose number 6 Rouge Libertine, which is a deep, rich red. These are intended to be used on both the lips and cheeks, if you wish of course, and come with a doe-foot applicator making the process easy. On the cheeks, this is just beautiful, as this is quite a dark colour, I literally dab the tiniest bit on my cheeks, then use my Real Techniques buffing blush to blend it out and it leaves you with such beautiful rosy cheeks. Admittedly, this colour will be much more suited in the Winter months, but when applied ever so lightly, it looks gorgeous.
The lipstick side of it, on the other hand, didn’t impress me as much as I had hoped. This doesn’t apply nicely at all, it’s blotchy, a bit streaky and bleeds so much I looked like I had had an awkward kissing session lets say… and got my lipstick smudged all round my mouth. This is matte, which looks lovely when it has applied nicely; though this takes a lot longer then the typical lipstick application time (does this exist…?) to create a ‘decent’ look. It’s also a little drying and it will quite happily find it’s home in any dry patches you may have. This faded quickly and unevenly as well, and no amount of blotting stopped it from transferring. The colour, on the other hand, is such a beautiful deep red and so pigmented that I’m absolutely gutted I don’t feel comfortable enough wearing this on the lips. It’s really such a shame; it’s such a beautiful product, looks fantastic on the cheeks but just doesn’t work on the lips. Obviously, I can’t speak for the rest of the colours as I do not own them but maybe the lighter colours work better with this?
Overall, I’m prettttttty gutted to say the least and I hate writing negatively about a product but I feel it’s only fair to give you guys a fair and honest review.
Please let me know what you thought of the Kiss & Blushes if you’ve tried them and let me know if you’re experience was just as gutting as mine was!
Still, if you do want to try them for yourself, you can purchase them from FeelUnique.com!
